// Independent project space

/le foyer du château/ has been an independent project space in Berlin since September 2017.  Situated at Karl-Liebknecht-Str. 9, directly at Alexanderplatz, the space overlooks the Fernsehturm and is embedded in the urban landscape of Berlin-Mitte, in immediate proximity to the Humboldt Forum (Stadtschloss).

The project was founded by Miya Yoshida, Annette Maechtel, and Kirsten Palz.  All events are free of charge and open to the public.

From the beginning, /le foyer du château/ has positioned itself as a feminist initiative, dedicated to establishing open and collective structures. Its program is conceived with an interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary approach, centered on visual art, theory, urbanism, performance, literature, and activism.

The activities of /le foyer du château/ include exhibitions, video screenings, artist talks, workshops, reading groups, and experimental formats. The project space serves as a forum for artists, researchers, and the wider public to engage in dialogue about contemporary social, cultural, and political issues.

The curatorial team has undergone changes since the founding: Miya Yoshida left /le foyer du château/ in 2018 due to international curatorial commitments, and Annette Maechtel left in 2019 upon taking on new responsibilities at NGBK. Since then, the space has continued under the direction of Kirsten Palz.

To date, /le foyer du château/ has hosted a wide range of events and projects.
